The Maritime Area Regulatory Authority launches a maritime authorisations application toolkit
The Maritime Area Regulatory Authority (MARA) has today Thursday 21th August 2025 released updated guidance and new application forms for Maritime Usage Licences (MUL) and Maritime Area Consents (MAC).
Key benefits of this toolkit for applicants include:
- Streamlines the data requested by MARA to assess applications, through user friendly layouts and clear instructions to aid completion.
- Checklists to ensure all required documentation is submitted.
This streamlining of the application process enables the efficient and effective submission of the required information by applicants to MARA for assessment, which will facilitate enhanced application processing timeframes.
The Chief Executive Officer of MARA, Laura Brien said:
“This updated maritime authorisation application toolkit is a direct response to feedback from our stakeholders and is designed to streamline the application process. The updated guidance gives clarity to the applicants on the legislative requirements related to applying for a MAC or a MUL and the new forms ensures the information provided to MARA is accurate and complete. This is anticipated to reduce the number of Requests for Further Information (RFIs) that MARA administers and positively impact upon application processing timeframes.”
The Maritime Area Regulatory Authority advises all applicants planning to apply for MULs or MACs to review the new authorisations toolkit, which is now available on the official website at www.maritimeregulator.ie. The guidance and forms are required to be used for applications going forward from this date.
