Fostering co-operation between regulators of the maritime area is a key responsibility for MARA, identified in the Maritime Area Planning Act 2021, as amended and further called out in our Statement of Strategy.

In 2024, MARA established the Maritime Regulatory Liaison Group. The group is comprised of regulatory stakeholders operating in the maritime area and collaborates to resolve existing and emerging issues in Ireland’s maritime area.

MARA chairs the group, with members including the Department of Defence, the Commissioners of Irish Lights, the Marine Survey Office, An Coimisiún Pleanála, the Irish Coast Guard, the Underwater Archaeological Unit of the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, the Health and Safety Authority, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Sea Fisheries Protection Authority, the National Parks and Wildlife Service, the Commission for Regulation of Utilities, Inland Fisheries Ireland, the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment, and representatives of the Coastal Planning Authorities.
