Competitive MAC Framework

The Competitive MAC Framework was developed under Sections 93 and 103 of the Maritime Area Planning Act 2021 and will form the basis for any competitive process that MARA undertakes in the awarding of MACs. It will contribute to the timely and sustainable delivery of ORE projects in line with Ireland’s climate and energy ambitions.

The Framework is designed to be flexible and site specific, allowing MARA to select appropriate criteria and weighting for each allocation round.  It was developed with support from Baringa Partners LLP, and it is informed by International best practice and stakeholder consultation.  In 2025 MARA conducted a stakeholder consultation in the development of the framework, the report and all further details on this process can be found on our Consultations page.
